May 24th:
(no longer) Selling on ebay
The one question we are most often asked is... “Is it easy to sell on eBay?”.
The answer we most often give is "yes" …and that’s true. However, when we take time to reflect on what people are asking, the answer is a lot more complex. What people need to ask is, would it be easy for me to sell on eBay? eBay is not for everyone, though it is open to anyone that would like to try selling an item.
The fact is, in our experience, most people try to sell one or two items on eBay then quickly get discouraged when the transaction doesn’t go well or their item doesn't sell quickly. We are here to offer help in avoiding many of the pit falls that you might get caught in when you first start out selling on eBay, so that eBay is a fun and profitable experience.
We plan to do six short essays or lectures on how to go about setting up an eBay account and how to start selling. We will try to break down and simplify the process, in hopes that it will help you do in a short time what it took us years of trial and error to learn. The advice we will be sharing with you is not the ONLY way to get an account and start selling, but they are simply what we found works best for us.
In a nutshell, here are the things we plan to cover...
Equipment you need to sell on eBay.
How to set up an eBay and Paypal account
Defining your terms of service
Shooting your photos
Setting up the auction
Shipping your sold items
This is a loose out line to be sure. Adaptability is one of the first skills you learn while selling on eBay.
Until we begin the above essays/lectures, we have started an eBay related message board. Please feel free to add any eBay related comments or ask any questions you may have. All questions and comments will be posted below, and we will respond to them as soon as we can... so check back soon! =)
Due to some internet security problems we have have to rework out forum ideas so please address any ebay questions directly to madsaxxon@yahoo.com and we will see that your questions are answered and posted here. =) thanks.
I was wondering if you carry any surveillance cameras? I need some because I have a really rotten neighbor that has been vandalizing my Bulldozer and his dog ruined the flooring in my house after my contractor got done pouring a fresh layer of concrete. Any ideas? By the way, great website!
Thanks for your question! Sorry to hear about your neighbor troubles. That can be very difficult indeed. I'm afraid we don't sell surveillance cameras, but there are a lot of eBay sellers who do. We did a bit of research and found over 700 cameras and accessories on eBay. Just remember to research sellers a bit before decided to purchase. Check their feedback scores and read some of the comments. Do the sellers have a long line of satisfied customers? Do past customers comment on the quality of goods and service they received from the seller? Feedback is a very valuable tool when decided who to buy from. Another important thing to be on the lookout for is the items shipping charges. Sometimes the cheapest deals have the highest shipping charges and actually become quite a bit more expensive than the higher priced items. Good luck with your camera hunt, and also with the pesky neighbors. =) Please let us know if we can help in any way. Thanks again!

Can you choose any type of shipping you want? Even if it takes the longest to get to the buyer?
Thanks for your question! Yes, you can choose to ship items anyway you like, and can also charge anything you like. The best bet, however, is to charge as close to actual shipping as you can. A lot of buyers (including myself) have paid shipping for an item (for example $7.99) just to find out that the shipping was only a fraction of that (say, $3.75 or so). This can create some negative feelings from buyers, as they feel they've been ripped off by their seller. I remember paying $12.99 shipping for a bowling bag and shoes, but the buyer sent them for only $4.25 (she had sent them Media which is against the law). We generally charge actual shipping plus $.50- $1.25 handling, depending on the item. I haven't had any complaints yet! =) As for the 'type' of shipping... we send a lot of items Parcel Post because it is most cost efficient for the buyers. This can be a slow method, but we communicate to buyers that it can take 2-10 days to be received. We find that buyers are happier to wait a few extra days and pay less. Of course, all the above is our personal preference. However you decide to do it, just make everything very clear to potential buyers so there are no surprises for them after the item is purchased. Thanks again for submitting your question! =)
